LANCASTER, N.Y. — It has been a few months since Hurricane Dorian blasted the Bahamas, but the effects are still being felt today.
James Steger is a Western New York Native who was living on the island when the storm hit. He was able to get off the island safely, but he lost everything in the storm.
On Sunday Steger's hometown community came together in Lancaster to help raise money for him and his family.
"I forgot how incredible the people are around here," Steger said. "How nice everyone is, how warm and welcoming and just... Its been a little over a year since I've been back home and the people of Buffalo are incredible. Everyone has been so nice and just so helpful. I couldn't be more grateful that I'm from Buffalo, N.Y."
All proceeds earned went to Steger and his family to get back on their feet, and to assist with their everyday needs.
