WEST SENECA, N.Y. – The flood warning for Erie County and flood watch for most of Western New York has expired.

Residents of Lexington Green, a street in West Seneca near the intersection of Harlem and Mineral Springs, evacuated from their homes Saturday night when the Buffalo River suddenly jumped its banks. Rescuers used rafts and high-lift vehicles to get people to safety. Then, almost as quickly, the waters receded.
Buffalo Creek in West Seneca peaked at about 2 feet above flood stage and Cazenovia Creek in South Buffalo jumped its banks for a few hours Saturday evening.
Route 240 was closed in the Town of Colden when fallen trees and high water in the west branch of Cazenovia Creek caused the creek to overflow the roadway.
Throughout the day, roads in various parts of Western New York were closed as sporadic ice jams caused creeks to temporarily jump their banks. That was the case in Silver Creek Saturday morning, Eden, the Town of Pomfret and Colden. Water main breaks in Cheektowaga and Lackawanna contributed to the water woes.
