Residents in Fredonia advised to not drink water without boiling first

The Village of Fredonia has issued a boil water order until further notice for residents as of Thursday, February 8.

FREDONIA, N.Y. — A boil water advisory has been issued for the Village of Fredonia water customers, as well as those properties that are outside the Village boundaries that use the water system.

Officials say the boil water advisory was issued after there was a "disruption in treatment at the water treatment plant led to water that was not adequately treated entering the distribution system."

They say the water could contain harmful microbes that could make you sick.  Boiling the water helps kill those microbes.

Residents should boil all their water being used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, and making coffee until further notice.

Water should also be boiled for those who wash their dishes by hand, and left to air dry completely.

"Once the treatment process has been fully restored to normal operations, the Village will collect water samples on consecutive days to make sure the water is safe. Notifications and press releases will be used to inform the public when the boil water order is lifted." the Village said in a press release issued on Thursday.
