BUFFALO, N.Y. — Every year the local chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America sets out to make sure hospitalized veterans feel the love. They stopped by local VA hospitals across Western New York and brought special deliveries.
On February 14, the Blue Star Mothers will deliver gift bags to Veterans at the Buffalo VA. Earlier this week, they were at the Batavia VA doing the same. This is a collaborative effort to make sure Veterans know that they are loved and supported, especially on Valentine's Day.
This week is also National Salute to Veterans Patients. It's a week to pay tribute and express appreciation to veterans.
So for the second year in a row, Blue Star Mothers teamed up with ServPro of the Southtowns, West Seneca and Lancaster for their 'Valentine's for Veterans' program. Local students made Valentine's Day cards and ServPro members made 250 bags packed with essentials for Veterans.
It's an effort that Blue Star Mothers president, Anne Gross, said is an important one, letting our local Veterans know we are all behind them.
"We still care about them. We thank them for their service and we just love them. We love them. We know the sacrifices that they've made and we cherish them and we cherish the service that they gave to our country," Gross said.
"There is so much love and so much support and so much gratitude out there. People just need to find a way to tell them," Daniel Bauer, the general manager at ServPro of the Southtowns, West Seneca and Lancaster, said.
The total value of the donations being dropped off at local VA hospitals and WNY Veterans Housing Coalition totals $10,000.
