University at Buffalo offers free dental care to veterans

More than 100 local dentists, hygienists, UB dental students, faculty and staff volunteered to help veterans improve their smiles.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine offered free dental care to veterans on Saturday.

UB's fifth annual Dentistry Smiles on Veterans event allowed veterans who do not have dental insurance — and those who do not qualify for dental treatment through the Veterans Health Administration — to receive dental care.

More than 100 local dentists, hygienists, UB dental students, faculty and staff volunteered to help veterans improve their smiles.

The program offered a wide variety of care, ranging from simple cleanings to oral surgery, including extractions, restorations and denture repairs. Volunteers from the UB School of Nursing were also available to conduct health screenings.

The program was a collaboration from UB Dental, the New York State Dental Association, the New York State Dental Foundation, and the Eighth District Dental Society.
