BUFFALO, N.Y. — There are two new statewide efforts to stop teens from vaping.

A New York City lawmaker wants to ban what she calls entertainment vaping products.

Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, a Democrat, proposed a law to ban new vaping devices that come with a screen and pre-installed video games.

Lawmakers would not begin debating the bill until their session resumes January in Albany.

Meanwhile, the University at Buffalo received a nearly $750,000 grant to stop teen e-cigarette use.

Researchers will work to develop an app to stop kids from vaping. Teens would receive  timely messages to help curb the urge to vape.

"We will examine the usability of the intervention based on user experiences of functions, interface, content, frequency of app use and minutes of app use," researcher Eunhee Park said. "Then, we will pilot-test the intervention for summative evaluation using a quasi-randomized controlled study using a delayed intervention design."
