Truck hits two deputies after Bills game

The incident happened just before 1 a.m. after the Bills game.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating a traffic incident after Sunday's Bills game when a truck hit two deputies at the intersection of Big Tree Road and Abbott Road in Orchard Park.

Just before 1 a.m. on Monday, the driver of a dark-colored GMC Sierra approached the intersection while driving south on Abbott, according to police. The deputies were assigned to direct traffic after the game and told the driver to turn onto Big Tree Road.

According to police, the driver did not follow instruction and hit a deputy with his truck. Deputies also noticed possible signs of intoxication, police said. The driver then fled westbound on Big Tree Road when he hit the second deputy.

Neither of the deputies were injured, but they were still checked by AMR personnel as a precaution.

"It is unacceptable to put law enforcement and the general public at risk of injury like this," Sheriff Garcia said in a statement. "I am thankful that nobody was hurt. Our deputies did a tremendous job Sunday night, in less-than-ideal conditions, keeping people safe in and around Highmark Stadium."

Police described the driver as a white man with a beard. Anyone with information is asked to call 716-858-2903.
