BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A tractor trailer fire on the I-90 between exits 57 (Hamburg) and 56 (Blasdell) had both lanes blocked heading eastbound Sunday afternoon, according to the New York State Thruway Authority.
No injuries were reported from the accident and the cause is being investigated, officials said.
Firefighters, including from the Newton Abbott Fire Company in Hamburg, and several other authorities responded to the scene of the fire. The flames engulfed the tractor trailer cab before fire fighters extinguished it. Around 4:45 p.m., there was little left of the tractor trailer cab, as shown in the photo provided by Beth Silverman, who happened to be driving in the area.
Both lanes were closed around 3:30 p.m. By 4 p.m. traffic was moving again, but slowly. The right lane of the I-90 East was blocked at 4:40 p.m. and traffic was backed up.
The New York State Thruway Authority recommends using a different route heading east bound on the 90 near the area.
