CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — One person died during a Sunday morning crash in Cheektowaga.
The body of the man who died was taken to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s office but he has not been identified at this time.
Cheektowaga Police say public safety dispatchers received a call from Lancaster Police around 4:30 a.m. about a crash that involved a fire and one person trapped inside a vehicle.
The crash, which involved a four-door sedan and a tractor-trailer, happened on the Cheektowaga side of Transit Road at Aero Drive. The sedan struck the side of the tractor-trailer, and both vehicles were on fire when Cheektowaga Police and fire officials arrived at the scene.
Cheektowaga Police say the car struck the truck's saddle fuel tank, which caused both vehicles to become engulfed in flames.
The man in the car is believed to have died upon impact. The truck driver was not injured.
According to an investigation by Cheektowaga Police, early indications show that "the car was passing under a red light as the truck came through the intersection."
No charges are expected to be filed.
