Tim Hortons Smile Cookie donations program back

Last year $290,000 was donated to local U.S. organizations from the program.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Tim Hortons is offering a tasty way to support a good cause. Monday through Sunday of this week, Smile Cookies are back.

The Smile Cookie program donates 100% of $1.50 cookie purchase - excluding tax - to local charities. Last year, Tim Hortons donated more the $290,000 in the U.S.

"At Tims we believe that putting a smile on our guests face is as important as serving our world-famous coffee and snacks," Tim Hortons USA President Ekrem Ozer said in a released statement.

"Smile Cookie helps us extend that smile further into our neighborhoods by donating funds to wonderful charities in our local communities, selected by our restaurant owners."

The cookies are known for their unique designs, each one different as team members create in their own style. On May 6, customers will be able to create their own cookies with cookie decorating parties as well as cookie decorating kits being sold in stores.

The Smile Cookie fundraiser started in 1996 to raise money for a local children's hospital and has since spread to a larger campaign and is now the philanthropic program Tim Hortons is known for.
