Thousands of National Grid customers lost power on Saturday afternoon, and most of them were in and around Niagara Falls.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Thousands of National Grid customers lost power on Saturday afternoon in Niagara County.

The bulk of those customers — more than 5,800 of them, as of 5 p.m. Saturday — were in the Niagara Falls area.

One outage area followed Main Street from near downtown and stretched north, near the Whirlpool Bridge. Another area ran along 11th and Lockport streets and Highland Avenue, a little further north and east.

Outages were also reported east of Devil's Hole State Park, south of Niagara University, and in areas covering and surrounding Hyde Park and Veterans' Memorial Park.

Restoration times for each of five areas varied, according to the National Grid outage map.
