NEWFANE, N.Y. — After facing numerous child abuse allegations a former daycare site will be getting a second chance under new ownership.
Formerly known as Sweet Angels Daycare in Newfane the site will now be under new ownership following the ongoing child abuse case that's allegations began from incidents dating back to December of 2022.
Atlas Explorers will be taking over the 1st Street location, and hopes to open sometime in April. The group is a non-profit organization, and is ran by Co-Founder Monic Elinskey.
Elinskey stresses that Atlas Explorers has no affiliation to the former Sweet Angels Daycare, and will be hiring a new staff that has no relation to those previously employed by the former business tenants.
Based in Lockport, the group's website states
"Atlas Explorers also known as "Atlas Explorers Children's Learning Center" will be a new locally established faith-based daycare and preschool academy located in Lockport, New York. Providing our community with a state of the art Special Needs Program and Early Childhood Education to our young explorers ages 2-5"

Since the allegations came out earlier this fall three Sweet Angels employees have been charged with two accepting plea deals, and one still awaiting trial in March for a decision.
Sweet Angels which operates 5 different locations across Niagara County in Lockport, Tonawanda, North Tonawanda, and formerly Newfane had announced their decision to close the small town location in December after an investigation began stating
"The decision was not made lightly but given recent developments including charges filed against former employees as well as demographic and staffing challenges the operations at Newfane simply became unfeasible."
Employees in Newfane that had not been involved in the ongoing case were told they could seek jobs at any of the other locations amid the closing announcement.
The daycares website still currently lists the Newfane location, and has a listing for new enrollment at all locations.
