BUFFALO, N.Y. — Summer City Fitness will make its return to Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Athletic Sports Pavilion on Saturday for the program's ninth year.
The City of Buffalo has teamed up with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York to offer free outdoor fitness programs.
Previously held at MLK Park, the program is relaunching this season and will have new, reimagined classes led by fitness instructors who are committed to improving overall health, well-being, and quality of life.
“With Summer City Fitness at Johnnie B. Wiley, we are kicking off our 9th season by taking this free outdoor fitness program to an exciting new level,” Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said.
“Body of Wealth instructors have something for everyone, so I invite fitness enthusiasts of all levels to check it out. I want to thank Dr. Michael Edbauer and his staff at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York for their continued dedication to this program, which continues our shared mission to support initiatives that further promote positive attitudes and behaviors through a lifelong commitment to wellness.”
Each session accommodates all levels of fitness. Free fruits will be supplied by Urban Fruits and Veggies to participants.
“Over the last eight years, we’ve witnessed firsthand how Summer City Fitness brings hundreds of people together each summer, promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering a stronger community,” said Dr. Michael Edbauer, president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
“As the City of Buffalo’s official health plan, we’re proud to continue our support of this impactful program with Mayor Byron W. Brown at the Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Athletic Sports Pavilion, another cherished East Buffalo landmark.”
Classes run every Saturday through September 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and will take place in the lot near the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Best Street.
