BUFFALO, N.Y. — The New York State Police shared in a press release on Tuesday, Nov. 26 that they have arrested a teen following the pursuit of a stolen car crash that happened on State Route 33 on Monday morning.
At 7:55 a.m. on Monday Troopers out of Buffalo had watched the driver of a 2016 BMW X3 traveling down the 33 without a seatbelt on and using the phone.
Troopers had attempted to stop the BMW but it continued to drive away entering the I-90 westbound and exited at William Street going eastbound in the westbound lane. The BMW collided head on with another uninvolved vehicle.
The driver who has been identified as a 17-year-old then fled the crash on foot, and was eventually arrested by Troopers.
It was determined that the BMW had been reported as stolen by the Amherst Police Department. The teen had the keys to the stolen car and stolen air pods when arrested.
Buffalo Family Court will be arraigning the 17-year-old.
The driver of the car that had been uninvolved and hit head on was not seriously injured according to State Police.
