FORESTVILLE, NY - A task force is looking into potential savings and benefits from dissolving the Village of Forestville government.
The group formed after the village received a $150,000 loan from Chautauqua County to offset large deficits.
Part of the loan terms was the formation of this task force to look into dissolution as a way of cutting costs.
If the Village of Forestville was dissolved, the Town of Hanover would take over the territory. Although the task force is looking into village dissolution, it must be initiated by citizens petitions or by the village board.
Trustee Gary Belot said, "We would have to give up our self governing and what little control we have here. So there has to be good financial savings and make sound financial sense."
At this point it is unclear what the total potential savings would be if the village dissolved.
However, the task force will meet again at the end of the month and they will talk about how to fund a study that will help determine what the cost savings.
