1 person dead, 1 injured after tree falls onto house

A Silver Lake Airbnb was destroyed on Friday after a tree fell onto it trapping two people inside.

SILVER LAKE, New York — A large tree fell onto an Airbnb trapping two people inside and killing one on Friday in Silver Lake according to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services

Emergency crews had been called to a home on Thompson Avenue in the Town of Castile around 10:11 a.m. A downed tree fell on a home, trapping the two people. 

Multiple neighbors rushed into the house along with the emergency crews and were able to pull out the two victims trapped inside.

The victims were transported to the hospital; one by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital, and and another by Perry Ambulance to the Wyoming County Community Health System. The victim who went to Wyoming County Community Health System was pronounced dead.

The victim at Strong Memorial Hospital remains hospitalized. Names are not being released at this time.

NYSEG and Rochester Gas & Electric Corp. (RG&E) are currently working to clear the damage as well as restore power to the area. 

An emergency demolition will be happening later this afternoon at the Airbnb.

An Airbnb spokesperson reached out to 2 On Your Side and said, "Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the victims of this tragedy. Our team is reaching out to those impacted to offer our support."
