Shots fired during chase that ends in Batavia

Two people were arrested following a police chase that started in Henrietta and ended in Batavia.

TOWN OF BATAVIA, N.Y. - State Police say shots were fired during a chase that started in Monroe County Friday afternoon and came to an end in Genesee County near the Batavia exit of the New York State Thruway.

It started just after 12:30 p.m.

Monroe County deputies were following a car that was involved in a larceny at Sears at the Marketplace Mall in Henrietta. Police say the car had license plates that were for another vehicle. Troopers responded to help the deputies.

The people in the car — Andrew Adeb Said, 49, of Port Richey, Florida, and Tara A. Hackrott, 35, of Williamsville — sped away from police.

The suspects drove west on I-90 and got off at the Batavia exit. Police attempted to block the vehicle near the toll barrier, and police say the suspects continued aggressively toward the Trooper, who then fired at the car.

The pursuit ended about an hour later when the suspects turned into a private driveway and hit a dirt embankment.

Said was the driver, and Hackrott was the passenger. They tried to run from police but were both caught.

Both were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Said had minor injuries, and Hackrott was taken for an evaluation.

Said is charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, and two counts of criminal mischief.

Hackrott will be turned over to Cheektowaga Police when she is released from the hospital because she has an outstanding warrant.
