SANBORN, N.Y. — First responders are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident in Sanborn, where six people were hurt.

The accident happened around 1:45 p.m. Friday on Lockport Road near Walmore Road. At least three vehicles were involved, including a Metro Bus, the NFTA said in a statement.

The NFTA bus was heading east on Lockport Road, near Walmore and Ward roads, in the Town of Wheatfield. Traveling west were a Sprinter Van and a Chevrolet Cruz.

"The van attempted to pass the Chevy on the right side and crashed into the car," NFTA Transit Police said.

The van, following impact, spun into oncoming traffic and collided with the bus. The person driving the van was ejected; they were taken to Erie County Medical Center and treated for serious injuries.

Avianna Peterson lives down the street from the accident scene. "It was just a huge scene. I've not seen anything like this," she said.

Overall, six people were injured. That included the bus driver and two bus passengers; all three were also taken to ECMC with various injuries.

New York State Police, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department, and Niagara Falls Air Reserve are helping with the investigation.
