NIAGARA FALLS, NY - Making the area safer is the goal of reducing the speed limit on Hyde Park Blvd. in Niagara Falls near Hyde Park School.
Following complaints from residents and school employees, Falls City Council member Andrew Touma said Tuesday the speed limit will be reduced to 25 MPH and added that 'school zone' signs will be installed soon.
Hyde Park is a state road under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). After getting a letter from Touma, the department conducted a traffic engineering study that concluded the change was needed.
"This is how government is supposed to work," said the Councilmember. "If residents have an issue that needs to be addressed, then it's up to government at all levels to work together to solve the problem. I'm happy to announce the work will be done soon. I thank the Department of Transportation for their timely reaction to the issue."
