LANCASTER, N.Y. — Save A Lot in Lancaster will close its doors on September 8th.
The store announced its closure on Facebook on Monday, Aug. 12.
The Store has been open for 22 years and boasts a large parking lot as well.
Richard Kanis is disappointed in the news, he travels to Save A Lot on his bike to do his shopping. He is worried about what the store closing will do for the community.
Kanis said, "I don't understand after being here for over 10 years they are just closing up. I don't understand it. It's going to hurt the community people that live in Lancaster, people who live in Depew, because they are all used to coming here and buying things because it's a lot cheaper than going to Tops or going to Wegmans or anywhere else. it's a lot cheaper for them to come here and go shopping,".
A concern that many community members shared is for those who live in the retirement community across the street from the store, Lancaster Towers. "People that live across the street, they aren't gonna have a place to go. at least they could walk this far, " said Patty Miller. She is worried that the seniors won't be able to make their way to another store.
Jennifer Patterson shares that concern, she is not sure how seniors without vehicles will make their way to other supermarkets in the area.
"A lot of seniors don't have transportation or a car and they can just easily walk here, there's an ATM there's a Rite Aid where they can get their prescriptions filled and do everything right here but now the grocery store here," Patterson said. "There's not always a way to go all the way to tops and tops is pretty expensive for things, especially when you are living on a fixed income,".
