The Roycroft Inn and Restaurant paint to be restored to its original color

After painters were seen painting the iconic East Aurora Inn white and black, residents took to social media urging for developers to keep the original green color

EAST AURORA, N.Y. — The Roycroft Inn and Restaurant in East Aurora will be restored to its original Roycroft Green colors.

The paint color became a hot topic of conversation on social media on Monday after a paint crew was spotted painting the iconic green building white with black trim. The crew did not get very far before they stopped painting.

Social media posts were calling on the new owner, Douglas Jamal to keep the original color of the building. Jamal bought the building from previous owners from the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation in April of 2024.

Robert Goller the Town and Village Historian said in a statement "I would strongly encourage the current caretakers of this national historic landmark... To consider maintaining a template more in line with the arts and crafts history of the inn and the campus that surrounds it."

On Tuesday, Innkeeper Dan Garvey said that after hearing from the people of East Aurora, Jemal has chosen to restore the Inn to the color it has always been.

"He listened to everybody he listened to the town and he listened to the people and he's taken it to heart and we are going to be returning it to the original Roycroft colors," Garvey said. "As I understand it, the entire exterior will be repainted in the exact color it is now but obviously we need a facelift we need to get this done and we need the fresh coat of paint."

Douglas Jamal said in a statement "Paint is not changing."
