BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Rick James story based on books and memoirs will come to life on stage in his hometown, Buffalo.
Ty James, daughter of the late entertainer and co-producer of "Super Freak: The Rick James Story" said she wants to "protect the throne."
She added: "I want to make sure that we continue to enhance and build on his legacy. The iconic status that continues on and just for people to know that he was more than the sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, and we want to give the back story and all the tea."
Being in Buffalo is sort of surreal and a twilight moment for James.
The two-hour-long production will be packed with music and information about Rick James.
"The contribution that he made to our culture overall the start with Neil Young, Crosby, Stills and Nash like everything that people don't know, that's what we want to, you know, magnify," his daughter said.
Stokely, from the group Mint Condition, is playing the role of James.
"He's one of my musical heroes, so that's already a part of me. But like I said, the nuances of the acting, but inside of the acting is just trying to figure out the essence," Stokely said.
