BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Zoo's young, male greater one-horned rhino is safe and back on exhibit after he escaped his primary enclosure on Wednesday.
Zoo officials say just before noon, Mohan was spotted in an adjacent animal paddock that he's not normally allowed to be in. He remained behind multiple barriers, and officials say he didn't pose a threat to the public.
Zoo staff monitored his whereabouts while working to return him to his normal enclosure. During that time, the Buffalo Zoo implemented its emergency protocols, which included sealing off entry points and directing guests to secure indoor locations.
The Buffalo Zoo says it took about 10 minutes to get Mohan back to where he belonged.
