Residents report low flying plane near Clarence

The Erie County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police say they received reports of a low flying plane in the Clarence area Wednesday night.

CLARENCE, N.Y. - The mystery behind a low-flying plane in Clarence has been solved.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police say they received reports of a low flying plane in the Clarence area Wednesday night.

Col. Andrea Pitruzzella from Niagara Air Base says a crew on a C-130 was doing a low-level routine training mission over an approved route. However, they had a mechanical issue with the plane and crew had to return to base. Col. Pitruzzella says the quickest route for them to take was over the Clarence-area.

The air base said they normally try to avoid populated areas, but in this instance were flying lower than normal to avoid other incoming air traffic.
