BUFFALO, N.Y. — P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative is teaming up with the Erie County department of mental health for a one-day free training. The focus is on the best practices to help families through loss.
The training will be led by two of the nation's top experts from the Dougy Center/National Center for Grieving Children & Families.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Reikart House, 5000 Main Street, in Amherst. The event is free.

Last year, the event was a huge success, according to P.U.N.T. executive director Gwen Mysiak.
"There's still slots available. So we're really want to make sure that if anybody feels this training would be beneficial to them and their professional life, personal life to better support grieving children and families, we can register you and we'd be happy to welcome you on Monday," Mysiak said.
Mysiak added: "We're really passionate at P.U.N.T. about grief literacy, giving people those skills, giving them the language based on best practices to be able to really hold space and to support people their time of grief. Unprocessed grief can do a lot of terrible things to lives and to people and we've seen that again with the population we've worked with.
"We've also seen the power of peer support bringing people together who have truly walked in each other's shoes in a way that offers understanding that you maybe can't get any other way. We've just really stepped out and scaled up because we've been asked by the community for better skills and tools. We've wanted to answer that call."
