ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — It's prom and graduation season and school officials are reminding teens to drive safe. as they hit the roads.
At Orchard Park High School, a fake crash scene was set up on the school's football field.
The simulated scene gave students a chance to see first hand what could happen if they drink or use drugs before getting behind the wheel.
"It really is such a great moment, like prom is a big part of everyone's life and you'd hate to see something like we just reenacted actually happen in real life," said Jackson Brauer, one of the student actors.
The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day is considered the 100 deadliest days for teen drivers.
According to the New York State Department of Health, 30% of the teen driver deaths, ages 16-17, occurred during the months of June, July, and August. They says teens in this age group have lower rates of wearing seat belt use and are more likely to have multiple people in their vehicles, leading to more injuries.
