NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Niagara Falls Police are investigating a small explosion at Legends Park, Niagara Falls Police said Tuesday night.
Dispatch said they started receiving reports from around the city of a loud sound, likely from an explosion, around 8:30 p.m. by the basketball courts.
Niagara Falls Police Chief Bryan DalPorto tweeted that nobody was hurt and a bomb detection squad is checking the area as a precaution.
Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster released the following statement regarding the explosion:
"Just after 8:30 this evening, Niagara Falls Police Chief DalPorto informed my office of a possible explosion at Legends Park. This is an active investigation. Police are actively surveying the area with bomb detection canines. No injuries or serious property damage have been reported. As always, we take this and all incidents seriously and all further communications on this matter will come from Niagara Falls Police."
