Platform collapse inside Main Street building in Buffalo; one person injured

Buffalo Police say a slate platform collapsed at the 290 Main Street

First responders were called to 290 Main Street Thursday morning.

Buffalo Police say a slate platform collapsed in a building at 290 Main Street.

One worker was taken to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries.

According to sources, the mishap occurred when a worker for a contractor doing roof repairs was carrying 110 lbs. rolls of roofing paper, and dropped them onto the landing between the 9th and 10th floor, causing the landing to crack and partially give way.

A City of Buffalo building inspector was on the scene to oversee repairs which were expected to be completed by early Thursday afternoon.

The building was not closed at any time.

The ten story structure at 290 Main Street, known as Swan Tower, is owned by Ellicott Development and is 110 years old.

It houses offices for the NY State Department of Labor, the Erie County Department of Social Services Comprehensive Employment Division, and the Legal Aide Bureau of Buffalo, among other tenants.
