NEW YORK — Pheasant hunting season is officially open in Western New York.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation released approximately 4,700 adult ring-necked pheasants on Region 9 lands for public hunting.
Various hunting locations have been set up across Western New York, including Allegany County, Cattaraugus County, Chautauqua County, Erie County, Niagara County, and Wyoming County.
"DEC is pleased to provide enhanced pheasant hunting opportunities in Western New York through our cooperative pheasant raising programs," Region 9 Director Abby Snyder said.
"We would especially like to thank the Erie and Allegany County Sheriff's Departments for providing pheasants to be stocked at Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area and Hanging Boy Wildlife Management Area through their pheasant-rearing programs."
The DEC reminds hunters to ask permission to hunt on private property.
