According to police, the car fled the scene leaving the 13-year-old boy on the side of State Route 62.

PERSIA, N.Y. — A 13-year-old boy is currently in critical condition after being hit by a car and left on the side of the road in Persia, according to New York State Police.

New York State Police troopers at 11 p.m. on Aug. 5 responded to a call of a missing child after he did not return home, state police said in a statement. Troopers began searching for the boy and could not find him. According to State Police, shortly after 2 a.m., Collins troopers responded to a boy possibly hit by a car on State Route 62.

Police found the 13-year-old on the side of the road with evidence and debris that police say indicates that the child was hit by a car that left the scene. The boy was airlifted to Oishei Children’s Hospital and listed in critical condition, according to police.

In their investigation, police discovered a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by a Cherry Creek man, according to the report. Police said the man is cooperating with the active investigation.
