Pedestrian struck, killed on Route 5 in Town of Batavia

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office received a call at its dispatch center shortly before 7 p.m. about the crash, at 4077 on Route 5.

BATAVIA, N.Y. — A pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 5 in the Town of Batavia on Wednesday.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office received a call at its dispatch center shortly before 7 p.m. about the crash, at 4077 on Route 5. That's where a man was struck by a gray SUV.

"The pedestrian failed to yield the right of way to westbound traffic and was struck by the SUV. As a result, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries," the sheriff's office said, adding that the man had entered the roadway from the north shoulder.

A full investigation has been launched. More details will eventually be released  upon notification of next of kin.

The Town of Batavia Fire Department, City of Batavia Police, New York State Police, and Mercy EMS assisted at the scene.
