BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Part of Downtown was without natural gas service for much of Thursday due to an outage, National Fuel told 2 On Your Side.

National Fuel crews were installing new pipe at the 500 Block of Main Street when they discovered a pressure problem with the new pipe. Workers had to take quite a few customers offline as a result.

This outage affected One M&T Center as well as restaurants, other office buildings and apartment complexes. The impacted area includes a mix of commercial and residential properties, and it appears the outage went from the 500 Block of Main Street all the way to Ellicott and Genesee.

National Fuel is unsure exactly how many customers have been affected.

Crews have been Downtown for several hours and are now in the process of re-lighting all the customers.

Once the re-lighting takes place, "We are hopeful there will be no other issues," National Fuel Spokesperson Karen Merkel said. "We hope to have everyone back in service as soon as possible."
