BUFFALO, N.Y. — Eight Days of Hope begins its week-long journey to repair homes in Buffalo's Ellicott District this weekend.
Over 1,500 volunteers, from 50 organizations in 37 states and Canada are coming together from July 20 to July 27.
Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) is a Christian, non-profit organization, that has served communities nationwide. Their website states: "We can spread restoration and new beginnings that rebuild not only structures and homes but also the hope for each community and person recovering from unthinkable disaster."
The Buffalo group was founded in 2019 and according to a press release they've helped over 1,000 local families since then.
Over the next week, volunteers will help roof, paint, and repair homes in the City of Buffalo that need a little TLC. They will also install windows, assist with landscaping, and make porch repairs.
"Individuals all across Western New York truly embody what it means to care for one another,” said Kim Lackey, EDOH Buffalo Director.
“I love watching how our community unites to make Buffalo better, one home at a time. We are so grateful for everyone involved... We are better together, and this outreach is proof of that!”
According to the organization, the City of Buffalo has provided a $750,000 American Rescue Plan grant for the project, which is being administered and monitored by the City of Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency.
"I am so excited to have Eight Days of Hope come to the Ellicott District. Their reputation for transforming neighborhoods is well-deserved, and I am confident that their presence will bring significant change to our very diverse community," said Buffalo Common Council Majority Leader and Ellicott District Councilmember Leah M. Halton Pope.
