New York State Parks are celebrating 100 years in 2024, and a special challenge kicks off on New Year's Day to celebrate.
The year-long Centennial Challenge includes different activities and programs that are open to residents and visitors. There are 100 missions that can be completed at various state parks and historic sites. You need to complete at least 24 to earn a commemorative sticker and a chance to win Empire Passes.
In 1924, Governor Alfred E. Smith and the State Legislature created the New York State Council of Parks which has evolved into the state park and historic site system that we know today.
