OTB looking for future leadership

Who will lead OTB and what if the mayor gets the job, would state senator Sean Ryan want to be mayor of Buffalo?

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Off-Track Betting in Western New York is looking to bring on a new president and CEO.

State Senator Sean Ryan has concerns about the current president Henry Wojtaszek, who accepted a nearly $300,000 buyout.

"We passed a law in New York State prohibiting golden parachutes. It was after there was a fiasco at the Erie County Water Authority where they essentially paid their executive director not to come to work anymore. So we have a similar situation at OTB, which is just really known for its history of corruption," the senator said.

He's calling on the state attorney general and inspector general to review the buyout package.

There are a few finalists for the top OTB position. While no names have been released by OTB, there is one name that continues to be talked about in local political circles.  Buffalo mayor Byron Brown is not commenting on his name being floated as a potential finalist.

Two On Your Side's Claudine Ewing asked Senator Ryan if Brown got the job and left the mayor's office, if he would be interested in running for mayor of the city of Buffalo?

"I'm really happy where I am serving the people of the Senate 61st district. So we have a lot of work to do here and that's what I'm concentrating on," he said.

An upcoming special meeting of the Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation scheduled for this Thursday has been canceled.

A new date has not been released.
