LOCKPORT, N.Y. — Senate Republican leader Rob Ortt on Friday called for an end to the new firearms and ammunition background check requirements.
The announcement was made Friday at a Lockport gun shop, Escarpment Arms. Ortt and other county and state officials at the news conference shared the call for change with local gun store owners.
Some local gun shop owners say background checks for guns and ammunition are unconstitutional regarding the safety and information of their customers. Some customers said they felt that they were wrongly denied and dealt with unnecessary waiting times.
New York State Police have dedicated resources to those who say they have experienced an infringement against their Second Amendment rights.
