ALBION, N.Y. - A Western New York prison guard is off the job after she was having inappropriate contact with a male inmate.
Andrea Benke, a prison guard at Orleans Correctional Facility in Albion, was arrested last week for official misconduct.
State Police say Benke will soon face a judge.
Benke was hired in October 2014. Sources close to the investigation say she was buying items for an inmate at Orleans Correctional Facility. The items included clothes and prepaid phones.
Benke also allegedly had phone conversations with the inmate during business hours.
Attorney Joseph LaTona represents Benke said, "They can say what they want and like I say, I'll focus on the specifics of the charge when it's presented to me in court next week."
Benke will be arraigned next Tuesday in Albion.
She is currently suspended without pay.
