One dead after fire breaks out in Tonawanda

The Town of Tonawanda Police confirmed one fatality from a house fire on Englewood Avenue Friday morning.

TONAWANDA, N.Y. — One person has died after a house fire broke out on Englewood Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda on Friday morning.

Investigators say that the fire was believed to be started by cigarette smoking.

According to the Town of Tonawanda Police, 71-year-old Mary D. Rogers was unable to escape and passed away at the scene.

A second victim was taken to ECMC to be treated for smoke inhalation after being rescued by three witnesses.

The fire remains under investigation at this time according to police.
