OLEAN, N.Y. — An Olean bakery is closing its doors and will be laying off 82 employees according to a NYSDOL Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN) that was filed on Tuesday, July 23.

The Bimbo Bakery site in Olean will close on November 2.  Their Auburn site will also close its doors for good on September 6. A total of 131 employees will be laid off, according to the notice.

In the notice it says that the reason for closure is due to a "reduced capacity in the manufacturing network."

Bimbo Bakery is known for baking popular brands such as Thomas' English muffins, Sara Lee, Little Bites, Ball Park buns & rolls, Mrs. Baird's, and more.

The Olean site located at 111 N. 2nd Street was acquired in 2008 by Bimbo according to an article by the Olean Times Herald which can be found here. They also mention that the facility was first built in Olean in 1915.
