Neighbors react to The Old Pink fire officially being ruled arson

Neighbors in the Allentown neighborhood are shocked and disappointed by Thursday's news that the fire that destroyed The Old Pink bar back in June was arson

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Fire officials confirmed the fire that burned down The Old Pink in Allentown on June 17, was caused by arson

Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo said Thursday that they have a person of interest in the case, but as of right now, they do not have anyone in custody.

After the fire started and the building was demolished, crowds of people came out to mourn the bar. They left candles and built memorials. Many companies sold merchandise commemorating the popular late-night place.

A remembrance ceremony was held Friday evening to celebrate the legacy of the Old Pink.

Neighbors were shocked by the news. Dennia Thomas said she would often frequent The Old Pink with her friends.

She enjoyed playing the arcade games, saying they would often battle. "Well I had no idea that it was arson, I patron here often...me and my friends come here every Friday and Saturday, we have a great time so I would not expect that to happen, I have no idea who would want to do such a thing," Thomas said.

Aaron Koscielniak said he was disappointed to hear about the fire, he wanted to take his mom there for their famed steak sandwich this summer. "it's really part of the neighborhood so it's sad that somebody felt that that was something to do. It's terrible that's somebody's choice," Koscielniak said, "I miss you, Pink."

There are no plans currently for the empty lot and it is unclear if the owners want to rebuild. However, those who would frequent the bar are hoping for a comeback.
