Officer-involved shooting in South Buffalo

Buffalo Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Friday afternoon.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Friday afternoon.

A 34-year-old man is at ECMC and recovering from surgery after he was shot by a Buffalo police officer.

Investigators say they were called to a home on McKinley Parkway for a suicidal man, who had a shotgun. Officers say when they arrived at the scene, the man fired two shots inside the home and then came outside with a woman and fired another shot. Police asked the man to put the gun down. But after refusing, a Buffalo police officer fired back.

Earlier this afternoon Captain Jeff Rinaldo told us, "The officer is currently at the hospital getting checked out and then we will follow our standard operating procedure. I believe the officer will be placed on administrative leave, pending our internal investigation as well as in conjunction with the district attorney's office."

The woman involved in the incident is expected to be okay. Charges are pending.

Police tweeted that there was an incident at McKinley Parkway and Como Avenue in South Buffalo.
