AMHERST, N.Y. - The days of shopping at a variety of stores in the Northtown Plaza are long gone. However, that could soon change with the sale of a former bank branch.
W.S. Development closed on a deal to buy the old KeyBank branch that once was as a First Niagara Bank branch in the plaza. The parcel sold for over $500,000.
Town of Amherst Supervisor Brian Kulpa told 2 On Your Side the old plaza will transition into a new experience.
“A denser, more compact, more walkable, a lot less of a sea of parking if you will and businesses that are comparable to their Whole Foods project,” Kulpa said.
W.S. Development remains quiet on what stores will fill the plaza, but the Supervisor repeated talk of a LL Bean.
“This is going to be the start to rejuvenation of Niagara Falls Boulevard and it also should start as a catalyst for that whole neighborhood along Eggert, which has been staring at the back side of a terrible plaza for a long time," Kulpa said. "It is all of a sudden going to become a lively place."
