Oliver Street Art Festival returns

The festival will highlight local artists, businesses, musicians, and more.

The vacant buildings on Oliver Street were transformed into a public art initiative on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The Oliver Street Art Festival in North Tonawanda returns for its 9th year next month.

Starting at 11 a.m. on August 3 the festival will highlight more than 60 regional artist vendors featuring handcrafted items, artwork, and vintage pieces.

David and Jessica Moerler who are participating vendors have been apart of the festival since its first year and are excited for its continued success in the years to come.

 “We always enjoy being in this festival and we look forward to this year’s event,” said David.

The Moerler’s own Lotus WoodCrafts and at the festival they will feature their upcycled metal, wood furniture, and art.

The event is free to the public to attend. 

Free activities for children, live music, vendors, and food, will take place at the Old Chapel Antique & Artisan Market which is at the corner of Oliver St. and Robinson St. between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

“Our family-friendly venue serves as an extension of the festival by providing free games, a bounce house and other activities for all ages to enjoy,” said Jacob Wankasky, owner of The Old Chapel. “We enjoy partnering with the festival each year as we build the Oliver Street community.”

Project 308 Gallery the hosts of the festival will hold an exhibition featuring art by a local artist Alyssa Capri, and more. Capri’s work will be on display between August and September.

Local business owners say the festival helps rejuvenate the community.

“This seasoned and established art festival on Oliver Street is essential to the continued revitalization efforts on the street,” says Gabbie Richard, owner of the Vegan Grocery Store and Vice President of the Oliver Street Merchants Association. “As a business owner on the block, I know that we are always excited to participate in the day - it brings vibrancy to the street and plenty of foot traffic to the sidewalk.”
