North Park Theatre begins fundraising campaign to upgrade projector

The theater hopes to raise funds to purchase a 4K laser projector.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The North Park Theatre is asking for public support for its fundraising campaign to purchase a 4K laser projector.

According to the theater, the current 10-plus-year-old digital projector is set to expire soon. Although North Park Theatre is close to its fundraising goal for a replacement projector, it is looking for something better.

The 4K projector will double the resolution and upgrade the brightness three-fold, North Park Theatre said.

"This is the next phase in cinematic projection," said Ray Barker, North Park Theatre's program director. They said the new projector will help the future of the theatre while offering a first-rate viewing experience.

North Park Theatre said a 4K projector would be the first to be installed in a Buffalo cinema.

Early donations of $150 or more will have the opportunity to select a theatrical-size poster that was previously hung in the theater's lobby, said North Park.

According to the theater, donations of $500-plus will have the donor's name placed on pre-show slides for at least five years.

Donations of $2,000 or more will offer a private screening event, $5,000 or more will offer a personalized pre-show slide, and $20,000 or more will offer the naming rights to the projector along with a plaque.

As of Sept. 5, North Park Theatre says they have raised over $22,000, with just $6,000 more to go until they reach their goal.

Donations are tax-deductible as the theater is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, according to North Park Theatre.
