Tourists get stuck inside Maid of the Mist elevator

Visitors got stuck in the elevator at the Maid of the Mist attraction on Sunday for approximately 30 to 40 minutes before getting help.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — On Sunday, the Maid of the Mist tours in Niagara Falls ran into technical issues with its elevator causing 18 visitors and one operator to get stuck for about 30 to 40 minutes. 

The elevator is used daily to transport visitors between the main observation deck and Maid of the Mist boat landing. Officials said that the elevator stalled out around 8 p.m. 

2 On Your Side reached out the the tourist attraction which said in a statement, "The elevator was stuck for about 30 to 40 minutes. We apologized to our patrons and refunded the cost of their tickets. An Otis Elevator Company technician identified the cause of the mechanical issue and made the necessary repairs with an excellent response time. We thank local police and fire departments for quick response and support."

The Maid of the Mist said no one was injured during the situation.
