Police respond to a false alarm triggering a lockdown at Niagara Wheatfield Senior High

An unknown cause triggered the alert at Niagara Wheatfield Senior Highschool, causing the school to go into lockdown Monday morning.

WHEATFIELD, Niagara — Niagara County authorities were alerted on Monday morning that a lockdown alarm was triggered at Niagara Wheatfield Senior High School. 

When first alerted the cause was not yet known so the Niagara County Sheriff's Department, New York State Police, and other officials went to secure the school.

In a post made to social media, the NCSO wrote "There is a law enforcement presence at Niagara Wheatfield High School due to a lockdown alarm that was received. There have been no threats identified, however, Law enforcement is checking the school out of an abundance of caution."

Soon after at 8:19 a.m. they updated their post saying that no threats were located, and the school was cleared. 

2 On Your Side spoke to the schools superintendent who said "The great news is this, law enforcement response time was amazing." when explaining that there was no threat.
