NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Medal of Honor recipient and Niagara Falls hometown hero Staff Sgt. David Bellavia hosted a talk on Saturday in the Cataract City.
The event began with a ceremony to honor Bellavia before he began his "Duty First: Serving Country and Community" talk.
Saturday was also an important day for Bellavia who used this as an opportunity to raise money for soldiers from his Iraqi task force and their families.
"I wish we could treat every single person who wears the uniform like this," he said. "And just acknowledging whether it's at the store, wherever it is. picking up their kids at school. Western New York is a patriotic area. We care about our country and we care about those who serve."
Bellavia was also presented with the key to Niagara Falls.
