$46 million welcome center coming to WNY

The old building was cramped and lacked the amenities needed by the park's large number of visitors, Mistretta said.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — New York state officials hope the new $46 million welcome center at Niagara Falls State Park does justice to a natural wonder without distracting from the landscape around it.

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Welcome Center, which has been under construction since 2021.

The design process began in 2019. GWWO Architects, a Baltimore firm that specializes in visitor centers and cultural buildings, led the process.

"The goals were to build a building that is befitting of being in a place like Niagara Falls State Park and that would welcome visitors in an open, inviting and airy way," said Mark V. Mistretta, Niagara region director for New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
