LEWISTON, N.Y. — One person is dead after a house fire Friday night.
The fire was reported just before 9:30 p.m. on Saunders Settlement Road.
When Lewiston Police arrived at the scene there was reported smoke and one person was trapped inside. According to the department, an officer who tried to reach the victim was unable due to the conditions of the fire.
The Sanborn Fire Department, along with other companies, were able to get the fire out but the person trapped was found dead inside the home.
A Lewiston Police officer also suffered burns and smoke inhalation, according to the police. The officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
