NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — The Niagara County Sheriff's Office made a social media post on Sunday to share information regarding National Stalking Awareness Month.

In the post, they mentioned that over 7.5 million people are stalked each year in the United States and said, "Stalking is often committed by someone the victim knows, and stalking by an intimate partner is the most common/most dangerous type of stalking."

January is Stalking Awareness Month, and it is the hope that by spreading awareness it can help people to understand the dangers better to stay safe.

Niagara County offers resources through its Domestic Violence Intervention Program & Victim Assistance Unit. People can call (716)-438-3301, the non-emergency number at (716)-438-3393, or 911 if it's an emergency.
